Lamraig Cottage is a traditional marram thatched cottage, within a group of historic listed buildings on the Isle of Berneray in the Outer Hebrides. Originally built some 200 years ago, the cottage sits on the shore just two minutes from a beautiful white sandy beach overlooking the Sound of Harris. The cottage has been restored combining traditional and eco building principles with all the modern conveniences to offer a unique and enchanting Hebridean island holiday.

Its small exterior defies an amply spacious interior, which is tastefully furnished with all the comforts required for a relaxing island holiday. Perfect for couples looking for a bit of peace and quiet but it can also accommodate families of up to four.

A wonderful base for walks on the beach, learning more about Hebridean culture, enjoying local seafood, watersports, wildlife and island hospitality. To truly understand the beauty of our island, the slower pace of life and Hebridean wilderness – you need to come and experience it for yourself.

Sleeping

The double bedroom is wood lined with a hand crafted double box bed. With the peace and quiet only broken by distant bird call, you are sure to get a restorative nights sleep. A relaxing place to rest and read with views along the shore.

The sleeping platform has twin futons and is accessed by a wooden stepladder (not recommend for children under 5).  Though small it is very cosy and snug - the kids just love it!!

Kitchen

The kitchen, dining and living area are all open plan. The kitchen is rustic and stylish with hand crafted beach work-tops. The dining area is kitted out to accommodate four with views through two windows to the garden and out across the bay. You can also take your cup of tea and book to read in the window seat and watch the boats come and go from the harbour.

Careful consideration has been given to every culinary requirement, please see FAQ for specific details.

secret den

The secret den upstairs is strictly for kids only - no adults allowed!  Just along from the sleeping platform, with beanbags and star-lights, this extra space means everyone can get a bit of chill time to do their own thing.

The bathroom has a vintage cast iron bath with a constant supply of hot water, so no matter what time of day you can indulge yourself in a relaxing deep tub. There is, also, a separate walk in shower area with large shower head that just never seems to run out of hot water.

Utility and Garden

The cottage is set in its own established garden with the option to eat outside, enjoy the view or simply relax in privacy. With a turf roofed utility out-house there is plenty of space to dry out laundry or store outdoor kit.
