Spring is a lovely time on the island. The migratory birds are returning to nest while the fields are filling up with lambs. The weather still has a nip in the air but it is not a busy tourist time so you will have the beaches all to yourself.

Nesting is now in full swing with Arctic tern, sky larks and oyster catchers filling the skies with their calls. The first flowers begin to appear with carpets of primroses, pansies and a few orchids on the machair.

Summer has arrived. Time to dip you toes in our crystal clear waters. Take a picnic to the beach and snooze in the sand dunes. It is still quiet here so most likely you will have it all to yourself.

Berneray Week arrives mid July full of so much fun - sand castle competition, It’s A Knock Out, 10k race and dancing until the wee small hours down at the hall plus much more! A great time to join in and get to know the best of our island community.

The machair is in full bloom with corn marigolds and field poppies. There is plenty of wildlife around and if you sit patiently you might spot dolphins or porpoises off the north end of Berneray.

A stolen month when all the tourists have gone home but there are still summer days. The water is actually at its warmest so you might just be tempted by one last swim.
